Prof. Johnson received his PhD in Cell Physiology from the University of Alberta and undertook postdoctoral training at Washington University in St. Louis under the supervision of Profs. Polonsky and Misler before starting an independent position at the University of British Columbia in 2004. His research group has published >125 peer-reviewed articles on the fundamental biology of pancreatic islets and the physiological consequences of altered insulin secretion throughout the body.
