Paul Estabrooks is the Harold M. Maurer Distinguished Chair of Health Promotion in the College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Over the last 20 years Dr. Estabrooks has conducted dissemination and implementation research with a focus on integrating evidence-based physical activity, nutrition, and weight control interventions into sustained practice in communities, worksites, and health care settings. Across projects he has used a collaborative systems-based approach that includes vertical (e.g., intervention delivery agent through organizational decision-maker levels) and horizontal (e.g., multiple organizational stakeholders within a given geographic area) components while concurrently using integrated-research practice partnerships to solve high priority health issues. The ultimate goal of his work is to facilitate evidence-based integration with typical clinical and community settings and he has developed a number of tools and resources to balance internal and external validity when testing new interventions.
